Protecting Your Email from Hackers

Darren Pain

Darren Pain

We are seeing a number of Hotels being targeted quite heavily in recent weeks with hackers trying to access staff emails. The two most recent examples we are aware of are criminals gaining access to an employees’ mailbox by getting the employee to disclose their password, and therefore gaining access to their contacts and data. The second example is a spoofed email supposedly from an employee asking the Finance team to amend their payroll bank details, which was unfortunately successful.

Please read our attached PDF security advisory message below and watch my Youtube video, which will reduce or eliminate the first issue, and we can work with you to put a banner at the top of each email you receive externally like this which would help with the second email scam:

[Caution: This email originated from outside your hotel. Do not click links or open attachments unless you recognise the sender and know the content is safe]

If you have any questions reply back to this email at education@hotality.co.uk and we’ll get back to you.
